Can I still work on my thesis after you've formatted it?

Yes, but with some care. Small edits — correcting a sentence, adding a paragraph within an existing section — are generally fine. Where things can go wrong is with significant restructuring: moving large blocks of content, adding or removing major sections, or changing heading levels. When Word encounters changes like these, it tends to revert to its own default behaviour — headings lose their applied styles, numbering restarts unexpectedly, spacing goes off — essentially undoing the formatting work. If that happens as a result of changes you've made after delivery, further work to correct it would be chargeable at our standard hourly rate.

My organisation or institution is paying — can you invoice them directly?

Unfortunately we can't invoice your organisation directly. However, you'll receive a receipt of payment which you can use to get reimbursed through your organisation or institution.

Do you also do proofreading and referencing work?

Not through this service — we are dedicated to document formatting only, and we never alter your written content. However, our parent company Academic Consulting offers academic editing, proofreading, and referencing support.

Can you modify diagrams or charts?

We can make minor modifications to diagrams and charts — such as adjusting fonts, colours, or sizing to better match your document's style — provided the original object is legible and editable. If you have specific changes in mind, mention them in the notes when you submit and we'll let you know what's possible.

Why do I only have 48 hours to review and request changes?

We schedule our workload carefully to make sure every student's deadline is met, and open-ended revision windows make that very difficult to manage. That said, if you're up against a tight deadline yourself, just let us know — we'll always try to be flexible.

What file format do you need?

For the main thesis — your chapters, front matter, and body content — we need Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) files. Other file types such as PDFs, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint files can be incorporated into the document as appendices or embedded images.

How do I send my thesis to you?

The easiest way is to use the upload form on this website — it accepts files up to 50 MB and takes just a few minutes. If you'd prefer not to upload directly, tick "I'll share a link to my files" on the form and paste in a Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, or OneDrive link. Just make sure download access is enabled on the link and we'll take it from there.

I need you to sign a confidentiality or NDA agreement. Can you do that?

Yes. We're happy to sign a non-disclosure or confidentiality agreement before work begins. Please email your agreement to support@thesisformatting.co.nz and we'll review and return it promptly. We treat all client work as confidential as a matter of course — the paperwork simply formalises that commitment.

Will you use AI to format my thesis?

No. Every thesis is formatted by a person — by hand. We don't use AI formatting tools or automated pipelines. Thesis formatting requires judgement: understanding your university's requirements, recognising where your document structure is inconsistent, and making decisions that an automated tool simply can't. That's what you're paying for.

Do you work with theses written in languages other than English?

Our formatting service is designed for English-language theses, so we're best placed to help when the body of your thesis is written in English. If your thesis includes sections in another language — such as a translated abstract — that's no problem at all.
